Call to simplify councils’ procurement processes

The Local Government Association (LGA) has called on Whitehall to simplify the procurement process for councils to promote local growth, as Brexit legislation is discussed.

When buying goods and services, councils currently have to follow EU-wide advertising and award procedures, which the association estimates takes twice as long as private sector procurement.
