Council leader ‘confident’ Solent deal will be approved

The leader of Southampton City Council has said he is ‘confident’ the Isle of Wight Council will approve plans for a combined authority next week, despite members rejecting the deal earlier this week.

Isle of Wight councillors rejected a motion put forward by their leader, Cllr Jonathan Bacon, on 19 October, which called on the local authority’s executive to ask the government to establish a new authority made up of Southampton, Portsmouth and Isle of Wight council leaders, and an elected mayor.
