Council left with £20m bill after legal battle

Cumbria CC has been landed with a £21m bill after a disastrous dispute with its former highways contractor, Amey.

A report to councillors by Cumbria’s assistant director for transformation, Paul Robinson, revealed an in-house investigation was unable to establish the formal process by which officers decided to withhold payments to Amey - the key factor in the dispute.
