After the County Councils’ Network conference earlier this month, communities secretary Sajid Javid will be in no doubt about how county leaders feel when it comes to combined authority mayors.
Putting aide the groans of derision at each and every mention of mayors, Mr Javid was subjected to a question from CCN chairman Paul Carter who put it bluntly: When you have a mayor, where does that leave county leaders? Who holds the power?
