LGA demands academy auditing powers

Councils want to claw back control of school auditing responsibilities as leaders challenge Whitehall over a string of spending abuses by academies and free schools.

The Local Government Association (LGA) today called for the ‘power and resources’ to ensure money given to academies was spent correctly as the sector looks to carve out its role in the changing landscape of education.
