Losing privacy by stealth?

Whilst our MPs are enjoying their long holiday or for some holidays, some of us still at home have received a letter relating to changes to the electoral register.

Given the lack of interest in voting in England and the UK, I would imagine that the majority of individual letters from local electoral services will end up in the bin unread.

Having read my letter there seems to be an arrangement that most people will not be happy about in terms of selling our personal information to any person, company or organisation without our positive consent.
