MPs and Ofsted clash over CSE failures

Ofsted has criticised council leadership on child sexual exploitation (CSE) hours after MPs demanded explanations from the inspectorate over how children in Rotherham were failed.

This morning, chair of the House of Commons' communities and local government committee Clive Betts told The MJ Ofsted had been 'jolted out of its complacency by the Jay report' on CSE in Rotherham.

He added: 'I think it's quite astonishing that Ofsted has disocvered this problem after the Jay report.'

A thematic inspection report of eight councils – including Rotherham and Rochdale MBCs – published by Ofsted today said leadership on the issue was ‘frequently lacking’ and ‘not sufficiently well developed’.
