Local authorities are planning to extend the Lancashire Enterprise Zone to cover Blackpool International Airport, which closed yesterday (15 October).
It was announced last week that the airport is set to close as The MJ went to press, after owners Balfour Beatty failed to find a buyer for the airfield.
In a statement, the airport said it is ‘working in partnership with the local authorities’ and ‘regeneration plans are also being developed, which will be designed to create future employment and sustainable economic development opportunities’.
