Oxfordshire in chief executive U-turn vote

Oxfordshire CC members have voted unanimously to reverse plans to abolish the role of chief executive today, following concerns about the legality of the move.

All 55 Oxfordshire CC’s councillors in attendance at county hall voted to rescind an earlier decision, approved as recently as 17 February, to delete the top role and issue current chief executive Joanna Simons a redundancy notice.

At the time, Oxfordshire leader, Cllr Ian Hudspeth said the decision to cull Ms Simons role was necessary to protect frontline services and save £250,000 a year.
