SOLACE president Mark Rogers has today argued that officials who fail to take children’s concerns seriously or believe children are capable of consenting to their own abuse should be stripped ‘of positions of responsibility and authority’.
In comments made in the wake of Rotherham’s independent inquiry into widespread child sexual exploitation, the Birmingham City Council chief executive said: ‘It is an understatement to say that we find Professor Jay’s report deeply unsettling and troubling.’
Mr Rogers stated it was clear that despite acknowledged improvements had been made much more needed to be done in Rotherham, but stressed Solace’s belief that it was ‘important to put accountability for these serious issues into perspective’.
