Zurich study fears NHS ‘culture clash’

By Jonathan Werran | 15 October 2014

Democratically accountable local authorities face an imminent ‘culture clash’ when seeking to commission services jointly with the ‘command and control model of the NHS’ – a report issued this week by insurance giants, Zurich Municipal, has claimed.

The 2014 senior manager’s risk report – produced in association with SOLACE and released at this year’s summit in Liverpool – argues councils are ‘worried about being sucked into the maelstrom of NHS funding, management and funding at the extreme’.

Based on extensive interviews with council chief executives and political leaders, the report further warned: ‘In the next 12 months, the tumultuous challenge of the new health and social care changes, plus the political distraction of a General Election may knock some ambitious projects off course.’
