Scotland’s 32 local authorities are all up for election, while in Wales, 21 of the 22 authorities go to the polls. Angelsey Council will hold its elections in May 2013.
In addition, ten cities will hold referendums to decide whether to introduce directly elected mayors. They are:
Doncaster Council, which already has a directly elected mayor, will hold a referendum to ask if the electorate wants to keep the mayoral system.
