One in 10 adults in some local authority areas have sought professional advice over their debt levels, a report has found.
The report by the House of Lords’ Financial Exclusion Committee, prompted calls for councils to do more to tackle payday lenders.
Peers concluded people become trapped in a cycle of debt because of the easy availability of high-cost loans or high-interest credit card deals.
