Borrowing exceeded grant funding for council capital projects in England last year, according to newly-released figures.
Figures from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) showed capital grants amounting to £8bn were used to finance capital expenditure in 2017/18, compared to £8.8bn raised through prudential borrowing.
