Bradford faces £34m overspend after children's services 'assumptions'

An ‘incorrect assumption from an internal document’ contributed to Bradford City Council’s children’s services budget facing a potential £34m overspend this year.

The council ended the first quarter of 2022/23 on track for a total overspend of £55.9m, more than 14% of its nominal budget of £388.5m.

Opposition councillors have claimed that under-estimating the number of children requiring costly external social care placements and the soaring cost of such services could force the council into issuing a s114 notice.
