Bring back business rates retention plans, government urged

The chairman of the Local Government Association (LGA), Lord Porter, has called on the Government to resurrect the dropped business rates retention scheme.

Ministers were forced to drop the Local Government Finance Bill – under which they planned to allow councils to retain all £26bn that they collect each year – with Brexit dominating the legislative programme.
