It doesn’t make sense to ease councils’ funding pressures using business rates alone because the two are not correlated, local government representatives have stressed.
Giving evidence to the Communities and Local Government Committee yesterday, president of the Society of County Treasurers (SCT), Sheila Little said 75% business rates retention was a step in the right direction but it would not ease pressures on councils.
