Business rates 'creaking at the seams'

Business rates as a tax is ‘creaking at the seams and in need of reform,’ London Councils has told the Government.

Responding to a Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) consultation, London Councils wrote: ‘In an increasingly digital economy, fundamental questions exist about the long-term appropriateness of such a property tax on businesses and its suitability to fund local government services.
