Call for national 'civic service'

London Councils’ chair has called for the introduction of a national ‘civic service’ so everyone in communities can play a part in their transformation.

Georgia Gould, who is also leader of Camden LBC, said the initiative should be modeled on the idea of national service – the requirement for young men to serve in the armed forces for 18 months that was introduced after the Second World War and ended in the early 1960s.
