Five charities are being investigated for putting their funds at risk due to suspected business rates avoidance, it has been disclosed.
A spokesman for the Charity Commission for England and Wales warned that some charities had been approached by landlords offering them a peppercorn rent so their property can qualify for 80 per cent relief on business rates.
