Chiefs attack 'light touch' approach to standards

England has been left with a ‘light touch approach to local government standards reliant on local codes, implementation and sanction,’ council chief executives have warned.

Responding to a call for evidence from the Committee on Standards in Public Life, the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives (SOLACE) said it believed the risks of standards being breached have increased since 2010, and that many of the mitigations that were in place have been weakened or removed.
