Councils faced pandemic fraud surge

Local authorities have faced a surge in attempted fraud during the COVID-19 pandemic, experts have reported.

In addition to being tasked with validating locally-administered business grants, council staff have faced an increase in fraudulent applications for benefits, according to fraud prevention organisation Cifas.
