Prudent councils are shoring up their reserves in an effort to protect future finances, figures released as part of the Budget have revealed.
The squirrelled cash was revealed as chancellor Philip Hammond praised councils for their efforts at rescuing the public purse in a Budget that doled out some cash for social care, mental health, high streets and roads.
