Councils resolute against NHS charity status claims

Councils are expected to stand firm as they hit back against NHS trusts’ latest arguments for why they should be granted business rates relief.

More than 100 councils have signed up to fund a joint defence against the trusts’ claim that they are charities and should therefore get a discount on their business rates.

The cash has allowed the Local Government Association to take legal advice.
