Dawes suggests council cash for high-rise safety work

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has moved to make funding available to councils for safety work on high-rise buildings after the Grenfell fire, The MJ understands.

The DCLG’s permanent secretary, Melanie Dawes, is understood to have told council chief executives at a private meeting last week that the department had ‘opened a tab with the Treasury on this’.
