Devolution deal will give region 'seat at the table'

A new North of Tyne directly-elected mayor will have powers in housing, planning and skills, the Government has announced.

Under details published today, an interim mayor will be appointed to oversee a new combined authority in summer 2018 until a mayor is elected in May 2019.
