DfE defends value of key working group

The Department for Education (DfE) has insisted it values a key service working group despite it not routinely reporting back to ministers.

Sector figures had claimed that the service working group on education and children’s services (SWGECS) - a forum for DfE officials to talk to local authority officers about financial matters of common interest - had been very active but that in recent months they had heard less about its work.
