Disjointed departments derailing inclusion drive

Whitehall departments’ differing appetites to devolve will scupper the Industrial Strategy and efforts to help those left behind by the political system, the Mayor of Greater Manchester has warned.

Speaking at The MJ’s Future Forum North conference last week, Andy Burnham said some departments ‘got’ devolution. However, others, particularly the Department for Education (DfE), ‘have not got the memo from the chancellor’.
