Do we finally have an advocate for councils?

As we welcome a new head of the MHCLG into local government, it is worth remembering that the personality of the secretary of state often has as much impact than any change in political hew.

It’s a little early to say what James Brokenshire’s personal priorities will be in his new job, but given the political imperative it’s fair to say housing will be central to his agenda. Interestingly, the ‘communities and local government’ part of his job title is already missing from national news reports of his appointment.
