EXCLUSIVE: Police refuse to reveal sector probe costs

Police have refused to publish the costs of an investigation into four sector figures who remain on bail three years after they were arrested.

Former Liverpool City Council chief executive Ged Fitzgerald, the authority’s ex-interim boss David McElhinney and former Lancashire CC chief executive Phil Halsall and the council’s current leader Geoff Driver were all arrested in May 2017 on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and intimidating witnesses and were re-bailed month. All four deny the charges.

Mr Fitzgerald, Mr McElhinney and Mr Halsall also face fraud allegations.
