Ex-leader suspended as judge continues probe

Labour has suspended former Bury MBC leader, Cllr Mike Connolly, while investigations continue into alleged child protection failures at the authority.

Cllr Connolly, who stood down as Bury’s leader last year, has referred himself to the council’s standards committee after two independent reports found that senior officers failed to act quickly enough when serious allegations about another Labour councillor were made before the 2015 elections.
