Former leader of Norfolk CC, Cliff Jordan, has died just weeks after he stepped down from his post.

Cllr Jordan announced his resignation on 18 May, following a diagnosis of lung cancer.

Speaking on his departure, Cllr Jordan said: ‘I step down safe in the knowledge that we have charted the right course and I know that you will continue to share my vision for doing what’s best for the people of Norfolk.’

Tweeting over the weekemd, council chief executive Dr Wendy Thomson said: ‘I was so sad to hear the news about Cliff this afternoon. I know how much he appreciated his relationship with all the council staff and we ours with him. He understood the importance of everyone working together for Norfolk. His loss will be deeply felt. @NorfolkCC

Mr Jordan had been a councillor since 1991 – first on Breckland DC and then, from 2001, on the county council.  He became leader of the Norfolk’s Conservative group in March 2015 and leader of the council from May 2016.
