The Government’s ‘disappointing’ review into flood defences ‘lacks substance’, fails to acknowledge the role of local government and will not prepare communities in the long-term, council leaders from areas ravaged by extreme weather have claimed.
The National Flood Resilience Review today pledged £12.5m towards temporary flood defences, but Leeds City Council leader Judith Blake said there was ‘nothing’ in the report to address the ‘severe lack of long-term planning’ in terms of future disaster prevention.
