Government orders councils to cease fortnightly publications

The Government has directed Hackney and Waltham Forest LBCs to cease publication of their fortnightly newspapers and publish no more than quarterly.

The communities secretary Sajid Javid has rejected the councils’ claims that reducing publication frequency will make it harder for them to communicate with residents. He said other methods, like education centres, community centres and libraries, can be used.
