Hammond urged to tackle budget black hole

Local government has united to demand financial clarity from next week’s Autumn Statement amid fears there is ‘little prospect’ of further fiscal devolution.

With Phillip Hammond’s announcement just under a week away, experts from across the sector urged the chancellor to provide more details about how revenue support grant (RSG) will be phased out, the outlook for devolution after Brexit and the solution to mounting social care pressures.
