The MJ recently reported that the chair of the Local Government Association Improvement and Innovation Board, Cllr David Simmonds, was signalling a move to a strengthened system of corporate peer challenges for the sector.

In addition to an expectation councils would have such a challenge event every four or five years, the publication of findings and action plans would become a core part of the process, as would follow up visits.
