Housing benefit claims make authorities overspend their funding allocations

More than 120 councils have overspent their government funding allocation to support the housing of benefit claimants.

Official figures revealed authorities in England and Wales spent around £7m more than was allocated to them through the Government’s Discretionary Housing Payments (DHP) scheme between April 2015 and March 2016.
