How do we properly measure the social impact of planning decisions?

Regeneration is happening, but the planning system that guides it is poorly designed.  It cannot properly reflect the needs of the communities affected or measure its full impacts. Whether you are a developer, councillor, local trader or community activist, the planning process is subjective, long, painful and costly.

At Tree Shepherd, we have been providing independent business advice in a particularly controversial regeneration area; the Elephant and Castle, south London.  Appointed by Southwark LBC, we have been supporting 25 long-suffering small independent traders who need to prepare for the significant challenges of relocation if the development commences.
