Inquiry warned of dangers of procurement for councils

Local authorities should not take on large procurement projects like Edinburgh City Council’s £770m tram network, the former convener of the council’s transport committee has told an inquiry.

Gordon Ferguson, a former councillor and member of the Tram project board, was giving evidence to the Edinburgh Tram inquiry, which is looking into why the original project was delivered late and more than £200m over budget.
