On the basis of research the Committee on Standards in Public Life has commissioned from pollsters Ipsos MORI, we can be confident that for the public, as the now hackneyed opening line has it, ethics isn’t regarded as that infamous county east of London.

According to a report issued by the quango this week, ethics matter, especially when it comes to the £187bn annual market for outsourced public services.
