Isle of Wight open to new devolution deal after Government rejection

A senior Isle of Wight councillor has warned the island will ‘not be bounced into new arrangements’ after Whitehall ditched plans for a combined authority.

Chris Whitehouse, who is part of the governing Conservative group, said the Isle of Wight would be interested in re-entering talks on a Solent devolution deal with Southampton City Council and Portsmouth City Council – but only on terms that would benefit the island.
