Labour MP Dan Jarvis has been elected as the first mayor of the Sheffield City Region – but ministers will be discouraged by the low turnout for such a historic poll.
Mr Jarvis won the vote once second preferences were counted, after no single candidate managed to secure 50% on first preferences.
