Sajid Javid has denied the Government struck a secret deal with Surrey CC after a bombardment of calls from opposition politicians and local government groups.
Some 62 council leaders and directly elected mayors have written to the prime minister to seek assurance that any alleged deal given to Surrey CC – in return for the council dropping its contentious 15% council tax referendum – would be offered to all councils.
Lib Dem shadow minister for health, Norman Lamb, called on the Government to publish details of the alleged memorandum of understanding mentioned in leaked text messages from Surrey CC leader David Hodge.
