Jenrick comes under pressure to extend audit deadline

Local government secretary Robert Jenrick is coming under pressure to extend the deadline for council audits to be completed.

The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales have written to Mr Jenrick calling for the July 31 deadline to be extended by two months.

CIPFA chief executive officer, Rob Whiteman, said: 'If current audit deadlines cannot be achieved within the allotted time, it is necessary to seek a pragmatic solution.'
