Local government minister Marcus Jones has warned councils they must notify their peers when placing homeless families in accommodation outside their borders.
The intervention follows evidence provided to Parliament by chief executive of Thurrock Council, Lyn Carpenter, who revealed her authority was often not told about new arrivals despite receiving 183 placements from London boroughs between April 2016 and February 2017.
