Kent asks Government to plug £6m asylum funding gap

Councillors at Kent CC have vowed to claw back a £6.1m shortfall from the Government to care for asylum-seeking children.

However, there is no sign of the council returning to the national transfer scheme for Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC).

Kent left the voluntary scheme, which distributes new arrivals across other council areas, in April last year after complaining about its effectiveness.
