LGA fears over audit delays

Problems with completing a large number of audits on time could lead to councils being penalised, the Local Government Association (LGA) fears.

The number of delayed audit opinions in local government has risen sharply this year, with 210 (43%) of audit opinions on 2018/19 statements of accounts not available by the target date of the end of July – up from about 13% on the year before.
