With a near end-of-year slot for this column, the natural inclination is to reflect on the past year. Here’s my take.

Despite the minor successes of additional funding and council tax flexibility for social care, the Social Housing Green Paper, removal of the housing revenue account borrowing cap, and a devolution deal for the North of the Tyne Combined Authority, the position of the sector nonetheless remains precarious.
