Liverpool latest to deliver Universal Credit warning

Thousands of residents in Liverpool will be forced into a ‘downward spiral of debt and destitution’ after the rollout of Universal Credit (UC), senior figures in the city have warned.

A report backed by an influential group of community leaders, politicians and civic figures – including Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson – has urged ministers to re-think the national rollout of UC to all existing benefit recipients from next year.
