The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) is to step up its direct engagement with councils to better understand their challenges.
It comes after a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report last year said the department’s oversight of local authority governance had been ‘reactive and ill-informed’.
